Are you conscious?

So as you all know, I am a word person. I love words. The word that has been in my spirit today is "consciousness." I am currently in Washington, DC for work and I was able to meet up with a couple of old co-workers for dinner this evening. When I got back to my hotel, I began to reflect on how good it felt to talk to other smart and ambitious women of color who were also conscious! I don't know about you but I have had many painful conversations with intelligent people who didn't have a clue of what was happening in the "real world". I loathe close-mindedness so "conscious conversations"are so refreshing for me!

Conscious means being aware of yourself and the world around you. It also means "being sensitive to something or being awake, not asleep or insensible," As I pondered on this defintion and my dinner conversation, I started to think of all of the people who are alive but are unconscious. They are not aware of themselves or the world around them. They are physically awake but socially, culturally, and spiritually asleep! Just look around you, people are asleep! Our young men are dying daily! Our young women are using their bodies more than their minds! People are leaving the church by the droves to follow false doctrines! Donald Trump could potentially be our president! We have to wake up!

My question to you is, "are YOU conscious?" Are you fully aware of who you are and whose you are?  Are you fully aware of what is happening around you? Are your friends conscious? It's important that we always take the time to analyze ourselves and be honest about where we are. Being in denial only makes things worst. We are living in a time where it is imperative that we be awake and alert. We have to make sound decisions as it concerns our lives. If you have been sleeping, count this as a wake-up call! Rise and shine because the world needs you!

PS: If you haven't had any "conscious conversations" lately, you may need to find you some new friends! Surround yourself with what you want to become :-)
